Acceptable Use Policy
This Acceptable Use Policy sets out what you may and may not do on RentBear, operated by Hi Bear LLC. It forms part of our Terms of Use, and breaking it can cost you your account.
The short version: RentBear is a tool for finding a home and, if you want, the people to share it with. Use it for that, treat other renters like neighbours, and leave our infrastructure alone.
1. Automated Access and Data Extraction
You may not:
- Scrape, crawl, spider or use any automated means to access the service or extract data from it, without our prior written consent.
- Use the service or its listing data to build, train or populate a competing product, a dataset, a mailing list or a machine learning model.
- Republish, resell or redistribute listings, profiles or any other content taken from RentBear.
- Bypass, disable or interfere with rate limits, authentication, or any other technical measure that protects the service.
- Access the service through anything other than the interfaces we provide, or hold more accounts than you need in order to get around a limit on your plan.
2. How You Treat Other People
Parts of RentBear put you in contact with other renters. When you use them, you may not:
- Harass, threaten, stalk, intimidate or repeatedly contact someone who has made clear they do not want to hear from you.
- Discriminate against anyone on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age or family status. Dutch and EU equal treatment law applies to housing, and so does this policy.
- Post sexual content, or contact anyone for a sexual purpose.
- Impersonate another person, misrepresent your identity or age, or use photos that are not of you.
- Share someone else's contact details, address, documents or photographs without their permission.
- Use the service to recruit, sell, advertise, or solicit donations.
3. Listings and Housing Fraud
RentBear aggregates listings from other websites; we are not the landlord and we do not verify them. You may not use RentBear to advertise a property you do not control, to solicit a deposit or personal documents under false pretences, or to run any other rental scam. We report suspected housing fraud to the relevant authorities.
If a listing or a person on RentBear looks fraudulent, tell us at support@rentbear.co. Never send money or identity documents to someone you have not met and cannot verify.
4. Security and Integrity
You may not:
- Probe, scan or test the vulnerability of the service, or breach any security or authentication measure, except under a security disclosure we have agreed in writing.
- Upload or transmit malware, or anything designed to interrupt, damage or limit the function of software or hardware.
- Interfere with the service through denial of service, flooding, or any other attack on its availability.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble any part of the service.
If you find a security vulnerability, please report it privately to support@rentbear.co before disclosing it. We will not pursue a researcher who reports in good faith and gives us reasonable time to fix the issue.
5. Content You Upload
You are responsible for everything you post. Do not upload anything unlawful, defamatory, obscene, hateful, or that infringes somebody else's intellectual property or privacy. Do not upload special categories of personal data about yourself or anyone else — health, ethnicity, religion, political opinion, sexual orientation or biometric data.
6. How We Enforce This
We would rather warn you than remove you. Depending on what happened and whether it is a pattern, we may:
- Remove or hide the content in question.
- Warn you, and tell you what to change.
- Limit a feature on your account, such as messaging.
- Suspend your account while we investigate.
- Terminate your account.
- Report the matter to law enforcement, where the law requires it or harm is serious.
We act faster and harder where there is a risk to someone's safety, where fraud is involved, or where the service itself is under attack. If we suspend or terminate your account we will tell you why, unless telling you would prejudice an investigation or breach a legal obligation. If you think we got it wrong, reply to us and a person will look at it again.
7. Reporting a Problem
To report a user, a listing, or content that breaks this policy, write to support@rentbear.co with enough detail for us to find it. If someone is in immediate danger, contact the emergency services first — in the Netherlands, 112.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Acceptable Use Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date.
